FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I have to remove my clothes?
For an adjustment usually only glasses and
sometimes hearing aid. Occasionally for an x-ray clothing with a lot of metal will need to
be removed.
Does the adjustment hurt?
I use a number of techniques and can use a
lower force technique if tissue is particularly inflamed or if you are more
sensitive to pain. Occasionally, because the tissue is pushed it may be tender or might be
uncomfortable for a short time.
How long does it take?
Your first appointment will probably take
you between 45 minutes and an hour depending on how long it takes you to complete paper
work, whether x-rays are needed, how many questions you have. Subsequent appointments will
usually be about fifteen minutes depending on how many questions you have.
I strive to stay on time and rarely will you
be in the office 30 minutes from the time of your appointment except on the first visit
unless you are someone who needs an unusual amount of time.
Do I need an appointment?
Not absolutely, but it usually helps. I try
to leave gaps in my schedule to accomodate walk-ins, but you may need to wait.
You can usually call for an appointment on the day you need it and be seen
within 30 minutes of your best time.
What Techniques do you use?
I believe that there is no single technique
which is best for every individual. I therefore have been trained in a number
of chiropractic techniques including the Thompson Technique, Gonsted Technique,
Diversified Technique, Toggle-recoil, Activator primarily. In addition, I have picked up
some tricks from the old timers through the years. Some diversity can better serve
my patients than trying to make them conform to
preconceived notions of what should work..
I've heard you need to keep going to a chiropractor once you start. Is that true?
Only as long as you'd like to feel good.
Do you go to the dentist your whole life? Many people who come to my office have
problems which started years before. I work with the body and try to help it
function as well as it can. Many times you will need care for a period of time to overcome
years of
neglect. I feel you as a patient have the right to decide what kind of care you want. I
offer short term care to help you reach whatever level of health/comfort you desire or
longer term care to help correct chronic problems or preventative care to help your body
be at it's best and prevent future problems. The choice is yours. I have patients I see
every couple of weeks, every month, every other month, or as needed.
Does my insurance pay for this?
Usually, I will try to give you a specific answer as I know more about your specific plan.
If I call today, when can I expect to be seen for the first time?
If I am in the office that day I will try my
hardest to see you that day and usually succeed. I feel you should not have to wait long
periods of time to be seen.
How much does it cost?
I believe in providing care to all,
regardless of ability to pay. Frequently your insurance will pay a large percentage of the
costs. In cases of financial hardship I can arrange discounted packages or payment plans.
I believe that almost never can a person not afford anything and that for a relationship
to work both parties need to give something of value. I adjust you and you pay me
something or return to me a service which will help me. We can both feel good about our
relationship then.
How about chiropractic and children?
Many of us as adults have problems which
began in childhood. Children usually respond much better and more quickly to chiropractic
than adults. Their lifestyle however, make them susceptible to subluxation. Think of
school desks, backpacks, TV/video game posture, contact sports.
What conditions do you cure?
Only the body and the power which created
the body can heal or cure the body, we just try to help remove the interference and allow
that force to work. That said, I have patients who experience much relief from the
following list and many others: headaches, including migraines, back pain, sciatica,
digestive problems, and menstrual cramps.
